When an inquiry from Marie & Johannes Thiemann made its way to our inbox in 2020, we immediately fell in love. Picture the most serene lakeside wedding, impeccable style, and intimate time spent with your closest friends and family; that was this couple’s dream wedding weekend and we were ready to make it happen. Marie and Johannes are the kindest people and knew their exact vision from the moment we began talking. The confidence they had about the look and feel of their wedding made the entire planning process a breeze, finding the perfect venue was the most challenging part of this Germany wedding! Luckily, we stumbled across the perfect space that was opening in 2022, their wedding year.

A Germany wedding can sometimes mean fewer options that offer accommodations. For this reason, it took us a bit of time to find the perfect place. After exploring many different options we found Haus Heinz Am See, a brand-new wedding venue that had on-site accommodations for friends and family. When we toured the location it was still under construction challenging us to use our imagination. Trusting that the end result was going to be exactly what Marie and Johannes were looking for was intimidating, but it all turned out perfectly. This wedding venue ended up being everything Marie and Johannes wanted for their lakeside wedding.

It became the ultimate destination weekend. Everyone, even guests who live in Germany, felt as though they had been transported to a relaxing weekend on the lake. Because the venue is about two hours away from Berlin we didn’t feel the rush of the city, the entire weekend was incredibly beautiful, laid back, and filled with love.

A lakeside wedding

Marie and Johannes's lakeside wedding was truly picture-perfect. With memorable events spread across three days the wedding weekend, celebrations were in full swing. Throughout the weekend guests were treated to delicious vegan food, beautiful views, and some great late-night partying - the venue allowed them to party all night!

By selecting a venue outside of the main cities, everyone felt as though Marie and Johannes's wedding was a destination, it was the perfect weekend getaway! On day one guests were welcomed with a casual evening party on the lawn. The wedding venue is on Müritz Lake, which is the second-largest lake in Germany, and naturally, the views were breathtaking. Guests had the best time mingling and getting excited about the wedding day.

Our couple's wedding in Germany was challenging, yet incredibly fun! From a sweet ceremony to delicious food and partying, Marie and Johannes Thiemann’s wedding was legendary. One of our favorite elements of their day was how they focused on having an entirely vegan menu. Both our bride and groom are vegan and wanted their wedding weekend food to accommodate their dietary preferences. The caterer they chose did a spectacular job! Even the late-night hot dogs were vegan, which we had a hard time believing because they were that good.

Combining textures and a timeless design

Designing with Marie and Johannes was a breeze. They wanted their wedding to feel timeless, classic, and minimal. We incorporated shades of white, ivory, and beige that paired beautifully with the vibrant greenery of the lush venue. We wanted to elevate their design with textured luxury linens. The reception tables were covered with pure white linens that fell to the floor. To bring this minimal style to the next level we found napkins with beautiful textures.

We kept all design elements cohesive with neutral colors, modern design, and minimal details. Because this Germany wedding was lakeside, we didn’t have to add a ton to make the space look beautiful. The design elements Marie and Johannes chose elevated the natural beauty of this wedding venue, it felt as though we were celebrating at the most luxurious, exclusive, lakeside estate.

How we prep for the unexpected

Planning a wedding in Germany can come with challenges, a big one being the weather. But as professional wedding planners we are equipped with the skills necessary to jump into action should anything go wrong. Because our bride and groom were passionate about having their wedding weekend events take place we kept our eyes glued to the weather. Of course, we had a plan B but were willing to do whatever it took to ensure Marie and Johannes's wedding events happened in their preferred locations.

It is so important to hire a wedding planner because things do happen and don’t always go to plan! With a professional wedding planner, you will have peace of mind through the entire day knowing you, your guests, and your wedding are in good hands. Because they hired us, Marie and Johannes didn’t have to worry about any weather-related problems. Instead, they were able to enjoy every moment of their morning as they got ready to walk down the aisle and say I do.

It rained on and off through the morning but our weather apps showed clear skies just in time for the ceremony. Guests were seated and everyone was ready to go, the bridal party and Johannes had made their way down the aisle and Marie just stepped out with her father when the thunder came. A large dark cloud quickly overcame us and we had to jump into action. We asked guests to grab their chairs and head indoors for champagne and to wait out the storm. Marie and Johannes headed undercover as well and began planning the perfect way to restart their ceremony. They had a beautiful ceremony and soon were Mr. and Mrs. Thiemann!

As the rain began to pour down we scrambled around the venue grabbing the reception linens, napkins, and chairs so that they didn’t get ruined. While it all happened so fast, all we cared about was making this moment as stress-free as possible for our couple. Marie and Johannes emphasized how thankful they were to have had us as their wedding planner, especially at this moment. Neither they nor their guests had to stress over the decor, details, and timeline; we had it under control. Soon, the clouds disappeared and the sun came through, we reset and were ready for the ceremony to begin. Because Marie had already walked down the aisle with her father and seen Johannes, they decided their second appearance would be together as a couple. It was one of our favorite moments of the entire weekend!
With the crazy weather behind us Marie, Johannes, and their guests could enjoy this beautiful Germany wedding. We were able to host their dinner reception outdoors which went beautifully, despite having to discard the stationary papers that we couldn't save, their dinner was beautiful. The sun began to set and the storm had brought some cool weather behind it so guests headed indoors to party the night away.

The next morning Marie and Johannes hosted a brunch for their guests. Though many were hungover from the previous nights partying everyone enjoyed spending quality time with the couple one last time. Everyone reminisced and laughed over the weekend's events and it was the perfect way to end the wedding weekend.

Marie and Johannes Thiemann’s lakeside wedding in Germany was a true dream come true. Although there were a few hiccups with the weather everyone had the most fun. We had the best time planning and coordinating this wedding weekend and are thrilled for them to share their kind love for many years to come.
