Dark Romance Wedding Inspiration

This modern wedding design gives inspiration to all contemporary romantic couples. Our team got together with local vendors in Berlin to build a dark romantic theme. It was a dream to get into our creative zone and push the traditional wedding boundaries. Now we are giving you all the details on how you can create such a unique concept.

Location

What used to be an old warehouse is now a creative workspace in Berlin, Germany. Kaos Berlin offers co-working spaces, film/photo studios, and wedding/event venues. Being that travel options are limited, we took the advantage of supporting our local vendors. This venue is a real landmark of the city. It's not your average wedding venue, and that’s just what we loved about it. A location as such is like painting on a blank canvas from a designer’s perspective, giving us the opportunity to completely transform it into something else.

The Inspiration

Our inspiration for this styled shoot was to bring a modern wedding with a moody twist to life. As international event planners and designers, we love to play with contrasts in our design concepts to create a “wow” factor. The combination of different textures, materials, and colors is the key to this modern bridal shoot. What gave us the initial impulse for this shoot was the Shadow Dress by Ritual Unions. The tulle and lace corset top gave a romantic and edgy vibe. We wanted to translate that feeling into the overall concept of the shoot.

Design Details

A decor goal for this modern wedding theme was to play with the softness of the draping and texture of the textiles. This complemented the florals that floated from the ceiling and evoked dimensions on the table. We had a specific style of plates used as a subtle base for the tablescape. They worked as a combination with the elegant smoke glasses. We used matte black cutlery and handmade candle holders to create a modern contrast in the décor. Even the cake by Lottas Torten tied all those textures together in the most dramatic way.

To go more in-depth on the design, we emphasized our focus on the color palette and floral details. The color palette consists of dark grey tones, black accents, and faded beige and white shades. We started by mixing in dark tones to mute the soft hues. This creates a moody but at the same time romantic concept. The dark accents are found in the candles and floral installation by Kopflegenden. For more softness, we added creamy and flowing linens for an organic effortless feel.

Kopflegenden created pure magic with her arrangements. She used white amaranth as the main attraction which could be found in the floating installations, place marker, and the centerpiece for the table. A majority of the flowers were a mix of dried and fresh florals. This was composed of carnations, roses, ferns, hints of black, and some langurus. The 8 seat table was adorned with a long flower runner. This blended perfectly into the depth and softness of the different table linens. What stands out to us the most is the black floral installation as this piece really traces back to the dark concept.
